Here we have the third Urpa i musell T-shirt. We came up with the idea of making them to have a good excuse to meet up with old collaborators we love.
This is also the case here: a drawing by Pere Xirau, responsible for the record label design of the album The Devil, Probably (UiM 008).
Summing up Pere is difficult, that’s why we asked Àlex Reviriego (double bass in The Devil, Probably and a good friend of Pere’s) to do it:
I like to think of Pere Xirau as a man adrift in the middle of a storm of ideas. I know few people with such a wide, varied and (seemingly) absurd range of concerns and interests. I’ve been lucky enough to share musical projects with him (Santa Teresa, Senobi), produce the debut album of his group ISISXAE, master one of his cassette tapes, and share hundreds of hours of conversation with him… however, I always feel that there is something about Pere that eludes me and does not allow me to “place” him properly.
When I expect him to send me the final versions of a composition for glockenspiel and organ, he suddenly comes up with a techno EP; after days of planning an electronic collaboration, he comes and tells you that he’s been at home for a week working on blastbeats and wants to do a grindcore session; when you need him to do some drumming, he’ll tell you that right now he is focused on sketches for new tattoos and can only think about drawing…
Not all of his ideas are realistic, nor do these unexpected departures always end up coming to fruition, but they are always completely honest and genuine, with a character that, regardless of the medium of expression (music, drawing, tattoo), makes them immediately recognisable. It reassures me to know that at any moment when the routine sinks in, I can call Pere and he will come up with some idea that will make my head explode.
